Éponine froze for a moment; she had to decide whether she was interpreting the gesture correctly, then decided 'to hell with it' and reached out to return the hug. "I'm good at talking," she said with an uncertain laugh, "but sometimes it's better to shut up and listen, I know that, and I can be quiet as anything if you've got to just say things."
